VTBD/DMK - Don Mueang Airport Bangkok - Amari - October 2025

Note: this hotel does not have a view.

To our knowledge, there is no hotel here (or certainly not one of any quality) that provides an airport view. However, because of the Observation Deck here, it isn’t needed.

The Amari appears to be the nicest hotel at Don Mueang and is connected to the terminal via walkway. So from your room to the Observation Deck (OD) took 10 minutes. At the OD you can see all movements, can see many (but not all parking stands) and can additionally see the RTAF ramps opposite (albeit some aircraft are rear on). The length of the OD allowed different better angles to be had on the RTAF aircraft. Although there were signs saying no photography there was no issue at all taking photographs, even in front of the routine security patrols.

30 seconds walk from the OD is a food court with many options, both Asian and (sadly) the usual BK, Subway etc. for those who have no taste buds or sense of adventure!

Taking the train one stop south of the airport will allow you to view the executive and stored aircraft at the south end of the civilian apron. Additionally aircraft of the Royal Thai Police, Royal Thai Survey Division & AeroThai, plus other stored aircraft, can be seen on their apron on the south-east corner of the airfield. (Some can be seen from the OD but not to identify). From taking photos from the train we were able to tie up all aircraft.

Elsewhere we have seen reference to also taking the train one stop north to view the storage ramp at that end as well. However buildings prevent this. You do get a limited view of this ramp from the OD, enough to identify the stored Orient Thai airliners here, but sadly they block views of the stored RTAF Superjets also on this ramp.

Cost for a twin room at the Amari was £64.00 per room.

EDDP/LEJ - Leipzig - Westin - October 2025

It's important to point out - Do not book this if you want an airport hotel, but if you do end up in Leipzig City on a non spotting trip, this will provide at least some view.

A 10min walk from the main train station in the city Centre the Westin Hotel allows some views to the airport which is around 5kms to the northwest of the city.

The hotel has around 25 floors, anything from 10 and higher will give good views.  Rooms ending **01-06 and **23-27 will give good views.  However fear not if you end up on the southside overlooking the old town, you can easily walk to the lift area to get the same view.

An aircraft on the approach to Runway about 2500ft.

Floor Plan (15th Floor)...

VTBS/BKK - Bangkok Suvarnabhumi - Siam Mandarina Hotel - October 2025

I'm currently ensconced in room 541 at the Siam Mandarina Hotel (formally the Grand Inn come hotel) with superb views over the Suvarnabhumi airport which also allowed a few of the Don Muang movements to be seen. There are 4 rooms with similar views, 516, 532 (single room), 523 and 541. Top floor is 6, 4th is also OK but not quite so good from the 3rd as there are a few trees in the way.  Since my arrival yesterday afternoon, most arrivals have been on the opposite side of the terminal on runway 19L, but can clearly be seen on approach and also after landing. Virtually all departures have been on 19R right in front of me. Also right in front of me are the taxiways linking both runways, and I have a clear view right down to the bottom of cargo. Nothing can be missed from  here, although you can't read off the regs on the far side so SBS/FR24 is needed for those. You can read everything off on the near side, and like many Asian airports it operates 24 hours. Wi-Fi is fair in the hotel but does have a habit of cutting out occasionally. Rooms have fridge, coffee pod machine as well as a kettle and, if you don't fancy eating in the restaurant, there is a 711 and a small supermarket on the opposite side of the road to the hotel. That road has 3 lanes in either direction and a zebra crossing 100 metres to the right handside of the hotel. It is an interesting crossing to say the least and not for the feint hearted. Breakfast was split between English and Thai foods, certainly enough to keep me going. My only small gripe is that, with the desk in the ideal position in the window, there are no mains sockets within reach of my laptop mains lead (but fortunately I brought my extension which just about reaches) and there is no desk light so it's a bit difficult to see in the dark without having the main ceiling light on, thus making it harder to see the aircraft. The hotel does operate a shuttle bus to a timetable, but on arrival if you go to door 5 there are staff who will order the bus for you.  Overall the best hotel I've stayed in so far on my visits here, one I would recommend as long as you get the views.

A previous report stated that room 632 was excellent (note this is a suite with a big double bed).  It was also noted that the shuttle bus can be unreliable and grab, a local Uber style app can be used as an alternative to save hanging around.  The cost is less than £4.

Extra Note Novemember 2025:  Deluxe Airport View-Twin Rooms with breakfast were booked here and we were given what reception described as their ‘best’ airport view room in room 641. This was indeed an excellent room, with two separate windows giving unobstructed views across the whole airport from the western side, directly opposite the main taxiways between the main terminal and satellite terminal. (It wouldn’t surprise me if this is the room used for the various YT videos of movements at BKK). The second room allocated was 615, which allowed for limited views of the approach but not of the airport itself.  Nothing could be missed and photography options were excellent.  The hotel provides a shuttle from/to Suvarnabhumi Airport.  The twin rooms each cost THB 5,643 per night (approx.. £132.00). They also allow you to retain a room if you have, (as we did), an evening flight for an additional charge.

LIRN/NAP - Naples - Palazzo Salgar Hotel - 26th October 2025

We stayed at the Palazzo Salgar Hotel on the front. A port/sea facing room will get all movers. 99% of departures heading out over the sea go over the hotel. If like us, we have a south facing room, I only see what turns south. There’s a roof terrace facing north ish which you will see all departures and should get albeit far out, arrivals when over the sea.

Note this is not an airport hotel.

RJGG/NGO - Nagoya - Comfort Hotel - October 2025

I stayed the 2 nights at the Comfort Hotel staying in room 715, which is a standard 1 Queen Bed room. I arrived in the evening after dark so wanted somewhere close to the airport which might gain me a few numbers. This hotel was good for room / ADSB after dark spotting as your able to see aircraft approach to the threshold of 36 and appear from over the terminal as the depart 36. I Suspect had they been on 18 I would have been able to see aircraft appear over the terminal. The Airport is relatively quite however the old airport and the B787 in the Dream of flight museum were a needed stop. There Is a restaurant but there’s a covers walkway to the terminal for the Viewing area and restaurants and Minimart,

RPLL/MNL - Manilla - Hotel Belmont - October 2025

The hotel is accessed via the ‘Runway Manila’ bridge from Terminal Three, which the hotel overlooks.

We requested an airport view room on within the booking.  Only one twin room was available, which was room 846.  This gave good views of T3, across to the northern end of T2 and views of both runways. It also gives (restricted by trees) views of the Air Force ramp. The room is higher than the airport infrastructure so monitoring movements was relatively stress free.

The other had room 1046, which was near the end of the hallway which had a corridor window with very similar views to room 846.

We also spent limited time at the rooftop pool area.  From here, you are higher still and can see the Cebu Pacific  & Philippines AirAsia maintenance areas including stored aircraft, as well as one of the FBO aprons. Although we got a few strange looks from other guests using the pool, the Staff were very friendly and appear to understand what we were doing, especially when looking through my telescope!

RCSS/TSA - Taipei Songshan - Yazhuang Hotel - October 2025

Overlooking the western threshold at Songshan, nothing can be missed here if movements are using runway 10 (as they were during our stay). If using runway 28 in poor weather, you may miss some departures if a low cloud base.

The hotel frontage looks out onto a road with the airport being immediately behind the shops and buildings on the opposite side of the road. Provided you have a reasonably high floor room nothing will be missed. (We had rooms on 3rd & 5th floors, and all gave similar views).

Some rooms have a slightly more restricted view due to signage adjacent to the window, but not so restrictive that you cannot see proceedings.  All rooms have a single King size bed, but the hotel is cheap and therefore this isn’t an issue. Cost per room was TWD 2,230 (approx. £54.40).

Movements here are much more limited than at TPE but all domestic flights operate from here, plus it is the main base for the RoCAF Transport fleet. After 3-4 hours the Mandarin & Uni-Air ATRs start to return. Aircraft up to A330-300/B787-10 size can be seen.

A shuttle to the airport is available and takes 10 minutes or so. Once at TSA there is an excellent observation deck giving ample opportunity for photography. For info we arrived here having taken a Taiwanese High Speed Train from near Kaohsiung so (being four of us with baggage) took an Uber from the station to the hotel. This was very cheap, at just TWD 490 (or just under £12.00 inc. tip) in total.

Note it is against Taiwanese law to photograph military aircraft.

ROAH/OKA - Okinawa -Loisir Hotel & Spa Tower, Naha - October 2025

This is not an airport hotel but a hotel with a view. Situated close to the port on the north side of the Kokuba River at the estuary with the East China Sea. Note that there are other hotels with similar names so if wanting to stay here ensure you are booking the correct location.

There are two separate blocks for this hotel.  You need to book a high floor room facing the pool.  If a high floor is not an option when booking, then a request for a high floor should be submitted with the booking.  The other block does not have an outside swimming pool, so booking a ‘pool view’ should guarantee a view.

We had twin rooms 1012 and 1013.  On this floor, any room from 1012-1024 should be okay. All rooms have a balcony, from which you can observe departures and arrivals across the river at Naha. Movements into Kadena & Futenma sometimes pass close by the hotel also. Electronic aids are required though.

ZSSS/SHA - Shanghai Hongqiao - Air China BoYue Hotel - October 2025

The hotel is located at Terminal Two. We paid on arrival to upgrade to executive rooms to ensure the highest possible position. Rooms allocated were 1002 & 1005, both of which gave a panoramic view across Hongqiao Airport and both were twin bedded rooms. These rooms also came with executive lounge access on the 11th floor (again with similar views).

Rooms 1002-1003 & 1005-1012 should all be okay to watch the proceedings.  Note that there is no room 1004.

Photos are possible from the rooms or from the executive lounge. Note that the windows did distort in places so you need to be careful to ensure good quality photos are taken.

Price was CNY 1,150 per twin room (approximately £120.00), which included the executive room upgrade negotiated on arrival.

We used the very modern Shanghai Airport Link Line rail transfer from Pudong to Hongqiao. This took about 40 minutes, was very cheap but unfortunately was primarily underground so offered limited city views. Price per person 26 Yuan one way (approx. £2.80).

GCFV/FUE - Fuerteventura Airport - Globales Costa Tropical - October 2025

Just spent a weekend at Costa de Antigua, Globales Costa Tropical, its a bit closer to the Airport than the Caleta de Fuste area, everything inbound passed at approx 200-300 ft. A 5 min walk from the hotel entrance allowed views towards the airport, with ramp and runway in view so anything missed landing easy viewed.

Normal landings viewable from the swimming pool area. We had a 2nd floor room with sea view, so standing outside the apartment door could watch inbounds easy when at the room.

LKPR/PRG - Prague Marriott Courtyard - October 2025

The hotel is a Short  walk from arrivals The Hotel has seven floors and ideally you want floor 5 - 7, rooms are either side of the building with even numbered rooms facing the outside of the building and odd numbered rooms facing the interior courtyard.  Rooms x02 to x48 face the approach of  runway 24 and rooms x26 to x48 face Terminal 2 and runway 12/30.

the front of the hotel is glass and there is a corridor that runs the full width of the hotel, on the 7th floor there are two sofas where you can sit and watch all movements on runway 24/06.

The view from the sofas
and three photos with the view from room 746.

The GA and maintenance areas cannot be seen from the hotel but there is a carpark a couple of minutes away where they can be seen,

WSSS/SIN - Singapore - Crowne Plaza - October 2025

Stayed a night at the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport.  Booked a runway view room.  All of these seem to be single rooms and not twins.  So I emailed a week before and asked them to add a roll away bed, which they happily did.  It’s expensive, but it’s by far the best placed hotel at SIN, and we only missed a couple of movements in around an 18 hour period.

The hotel is interconnected to T3.  We were allocated room 611 which is a bit lower than you’d ideally like 9th floor is the top floor, however they had nothing higher available.
Rooms x02-x12 will give a similar view (and I guess on the lower floors too) except x01/x03/x05/x07 which face the wrong way. Runway view rooms overlook runways 02L/20R, so you won’t miss anything on this runway as they are right in front of you.  To see the other runways 02C/20C and 02R/20L you need to leave your room and look through a gap on the other side of the hotel landing (across the top of the swimming pool).   With electronics it is easy enough, however we had to keep using the internal fire escape staircase to get the height we needed (walking up to the 8th or 9th floor is helpful) – for the whole time we visited they were landing / taking off on the 02’s - with 02L and 02C being used for all movements and 02R not used at all.

Runway view rooms also allow Seletar arrivals and departures to be seen from the room is the visibility is OK.

KPHX/PHX - Phoenix - Drury Inn and Suites - October 2025

Staying at Drury Inn and Suites East Universal Drive Room 616.

The entire "wall" is a window facing Sky Harbor Airport.  All gates from Delta to Frontier and most Southwest are visible and everything on the South Runway can be seen. The view also looks straight up the taxiway between Terminals 3 and 4 so anything on the North Runway appears apart from an odd aircraft turning short. All arrivals from the East are visible right up to touchdown. You miss almost nothing (And there is a happy "hour" 5.30 till 7.00 every evening with up to three free Alcoholic drinks plus food)

WMKK/KUL - Kuala Lumpur International - Tune Hotel KLIA2 - October 2025

I booked the Tune after reading good reviews- what I hadn't realised was that there are two Tunes and I got the wrong one!  Although the guy on reception was helpful there really are not great views to be had.  I could see arrivals as dots and 33 departures if I was quick from the 5th floor room (579) - but it's not recommended. Make sure you book the Tune Aeropolis and not Tune KLIA2.

LEPA/PMI - Palma Mallorca - AluaSoul Hotel - October 2025

I've stayed here a coupe of times.  Of note only runway 06L/24R can be monitored and no views of the airport itself but nothing using this runway can be missed.  4th or 5th floor room on the ocean/city side of the hotel is excellent.  Breakfasts one of the best I have ever come across.  5-10 min walk and you are in the main town area of Can Pastilla with more restaurants and shops than you need.  Hotel is a 10 min taxi ride from the airport,  the bus stop is about a 5-10 min walk from the main road.  25 min walk to the bridge to overlook the Biz ramp.  Alua Soul is part of the Hyatt Group.

VHHH/HKG - Hong Kong - Regala sky city hotel - October 2025

NOTE this is not the Regal Airport Hotel.

I stayed here for one night arriving at 2300 …. Despite asking on my reservation and at reception they said no rooms have any airport view.  I think the reception just couldn’t be bothered to accommodate …..  The hotel is a circle style with inward and outward facing windows. I saw the top floor marked sky garden so I headed up there as soon as I woke up.  The open area is accessed by a stair case adjacent to room 12111 and is open 0800-2200.  Again , no power sockets , facilities and very little shelter.  This was approx £65 per night …… the rooms are very small ….. they also come with no fridge, but have good aircon.  .  The opportunity to be outside , and also to see Schenzen in the distance , made up for the lack of reception help.  There are some plastic tables / chairs on the roof so I moved these into the part shaded area which worked fine.    The hotel has microwave snacks / meals and a full restaurant service.    The bus to the hotel runs from bays 9-12 in the T 2 bus station area.

LTAI/AYT - Antalya - Holiday Inn - Lara - October 2025

I stayed at the Holiday Inn - Lara Antalya which I think has been reported on before. The hotel is a couple of miles south of the airport and about a mile east of the extended centreline for runway 36C, the main runway used for arrivals over the sea. 36R/18L is departures preferred and 36L/18R is used by the occasional mil visitor.  I had an 11th floor sea facing room with a balcony and breakfast was included. During occasional runway inspections / works on 36C any arrivals landing on 36R come right over the hotel.

For photos you'll need a 400mm tele lens to take pictures from the balcony of arrivals on 36C.  They did switch ends a couple of times due weather, but you can briefly glimpse departures from the balcony when they do go off runway 18L.

Some of the Russian SU95's didn't seem to show on apps including ADSB exchange but nearly all were read off from the balcony. They do however appear on the arrivals list for the airport on FR24 within a couple of minutes of landing. Everything else appears on the usual apps.
