KLAS/LAS - Las Vegas - Oyo Hotel - October 2019

Oyo, formerly Hooters Hotel, and before that the San Remo resort has a great view over Las Vegas McCarran from even numbered rooms (Pool View) in the Ocean Tower.  It has poor reviews but I've always found the rooms to be OK.  The communal areas are a bit run down and need refurbishment, and the in-hotel Hooters has the worst service ever.

Watch out for the 'resort fee' on top of your hotel charge that is now common most Vegas hotels - the nearby Motel 6 doesn't charge it but also has no view. This hotel has now added car parking charges - it was free parking for many years.

A couple of snaps of the early morning view towards Atlantic FBO.  Will get more pictures in late 2025 when I visit again. Amongst others the Luxor also has good views across the airfield.

DXB/OMDB - Dubai - Premier Inn - June 2019

At Dubai I stayed in the Premier Inn. Even rooms ending x02 to x10 look towards terminal 1, and x12, the first one down the eastern side, looks through the gap between terminals.  I'm told 412 is optimum. Due to an adjacent building any higher is no use, but in the corner between 10 and 12 there's windows and seats which I briefly used in the morning.

There is a shuttle bus from terminal 1/3 and a Costa Coffee in the hotel.

The Hilton Garden Inn is a better bet at DXB.

ZUCK/CKG - Chongqing - Rica Hotel - May 2019

Next stop was Chongqing, Sichuan Province.  There is effectively a town centre opposite Terminal 2, where the Rica Hotel overlooks the airport.  When booking on Trip.com it usually tells you which types of room are on which floors which helps immensely in booking the right type of room to get a [high floor] view.  The Rica was no different.  I had a room on the top floor which is the 10th. Odd numbers required for a view, ending 01-17 overlook the approach and runway ends and higher look over the airfield. I had 1001, which was a huge room, and leaning our the window could see traffic using the far runway (03L/21R). Note that a lot of on-line information doesn’t show Terminal 3 or the new runway, 03L/21R – but these massively change the layout and operation of the airfield).  There is a Days Inn which probably has a similar view.

Previous reports mention difficulty accessing the hotels at CKG.  This has now all changed with the construction of the metro, where a new huge metro station, built underground, spans across from terminal 2 to Bingang Road where the hotels are.  Just follow signs for exit 7, Bingang Road is behind you, the Days Inn is right there and the Rica is five minutes’ walk to the right.
