Search for your airport

KLAS/LAS - Las Vegas - New York, New York - February 2026

I spent the week in the New York New York hotel in Las Vegas on a family holiday, The Hotel is well suited for combining a holiday  with some spotting time.

When booking you need to make sure you book a strip view room, any of the rooms in any of the towers will work, The higher the better.  We were allocated 1872 which was ideal, In my very limited experience there is little point in trying to negotiate with the front desk for a room change or a specific room as all allocations seem to be controlled remotely by a central reservations team and whilst they can and will ask for a change the front desk staff have no authority to make their own decisions.

Spotting will require electronics and nothing can be read off, The hotel is also too far away for any photography but views are good. Following the demolition of the Tropicana hotel there is currently a relatively unrestricted view over the airport, with only Terminal 3. the D gates and Cargo being out of view however, crucially all four runways can be seen so nothing will be missed. I believe it should remain this way for much of 2026 however construction of the Major League Baseball stadium and NBA stadium on the site has started and depending on the hight of these facilities views may be interrupted. Even of this were the case there should still be gaps between buildings for nothing to be missed.

Whilst Las Vegas is well known from a purely spotting perspective there are a few tips that can assist with combing it with a holiday. Firstly I don’t do biz so that made life a lot easier for me.

On a more general point Las Vegas is all about “the strip” which runs adjacent to the airport, In General the further South your hotel is the better the view but most hotels will work. If your hotel is on the west side of the strip then you need a strip facing room which are generally more expensive, if your hotel is to the east of the strip then a strip facing room wont work and you need a cheaper non strip view. In general this holds good however there are a few exceptions such as Caesars palace and some rooms of the MGM Grand where rooms are adjacent to the strip.

Aircraft departing from Runway 26L will fly over the strip on departure and can bee seen if you are outdoors. Aircraft departing from 1R headed North or East will turn right after departure and not overfly the strip. Departures to the West or south will bank sharply and overfly the strip. That said we were there in the winter when temperatures were in the 20’s I cant imagine you will want to spend much time outside in summer when its in the 40’s.

KMIA/MIA - Miami - EB Hotel - February 2026

EB Hotel at MIA, airport facing rooms have this view, the higher the better.

GCLP/LPA - Las Palmas - Rickety Lodge - Feb 2026

Accommodation was at Rickaty Lodge. Available direct or on Booking.com.  Second time here!

Only three rooms and seemingly very popular as there isn’t much other accommodation around the airport. Pick up and drop off is included in the room rate or for €1.40 (cash or card) any bus from bus stop #1 at the airport literally one stop.  Whilst it is along a motorway I reckon it would be walkable on the verge. There are no views from the rooms but there is a constant drone of ATR72s! Views are from the roof bar area or a further elevated platform but not really any good for photos.  However its only a couple of minutes walk to the end of the runway for landing shots. or the other way for a view over the ramp.

A basic serve yourself breakfast is included, and evening meals are available for purchase, along with drinks from the bar. Otherwise there are restaurants in the nearby town of Las Puntillas.  Don't forget there Casa 212 preserved in the town too!

This hotel is Cash only.

VTSP/HKT - Phuket - Maya Hotel - February 2026

I stayed at the Maya Hotel. About a five minute walk from the terminal. Then about another 5-8 minute walk from the beach. Another 15 minutes along the beach brings you to the end of the runway.

I had not expected a view of the airport from this hotel, however it does have limited views. To explain. The hotel is H shaped with the rooms in two blocks separated by the pool and reception. The rooms either face the pool or to the outside. The blocks are A and B. I was in block B. With an inside facing room. On the 4th floor, on the landing, there is a large window. This has views towards the airport. Arrivals from the sea can be seen at about 400ft. Departures on the same runway can also be seen briefly! When the other runway direction is in use then departures can be seen easily, but there is no view of arrivals. Block A does NOT have a corresponding window.

I would think, but not proven, that rooms 2408 and 2308 would have views of arrivals from the sea. These are the outside end rooms in Block B. The window above is right outside 2408.

The breakfast is mainly Asian cuisine, but a reasonable ‘continental’ breakfast can be achieved. There are other cafes available on the road outside the hotel.

I found this hotel very convenient. A 15-20 minute walk will also get you to the 8/5 Runway Cafe, halfway along the runway. The rooms were spacious and very modern.

KMIA/MIA - Miami - Clarion Hotel - February 2026

In Miami we stayed in the Clarion Inns & Suites. Its a long time favourite hotel for spotters. The hotel is old but the view from the 11th floor (odd numbered rooms) have a very good view. Room 1107 has 2 queen beds, 1109 1 king bed and 1103 is a studio suite. All 3 runways are in sight from 1109 even now a new hanger is built in front meaning that Lower floors will be problematic.

KMCO/MCO - Orlando - Avid hotel - February 2026

In Orlando we stayed at the Avid hotel. The hotel is situated just outside the airport on the north side, just west of the runways. The hotel has an airport shuttle. Rooms on the top floor, on the front side of the hotel give good views on both runways. Rooms with odd numbers 505 till 519 are fine. We had a room with 2 queen beds. With a little effort nothing needs to be missed. There is a 7Eleven next to the hotel for food and drinks.

KMIA/MIA - Miami - Candlewood Suites- February 2026

On a recent visit to Miami we stayed in the Candlewood Suites. From 5th or 6th floor you can look over the wall at the cargo and see aircraft taxiing and lining up and landing. Really nothing to be missed from here. We had a 1 queen room but other room types are possible. The room has a kitchenette and the hotel provides a shuttle service to the airport or valet parking.

KDFW/DFW - Dallas Fort Worth - Grand Hyatt - February 2026

From Grand Hyatt Hotel DFW, room 746.

This Hotel is part of the Terminal building at DFW Airport, room 746 which is at end of the corridor. You can get all N/S stuff easily from room to see movements from the West simply by opening the door and not even leaving room to the east. I imagine if you had the room across the hall, 747, you’d have the reverse, but also be able to see DAL activity.

Even numbered floors look west (over Terminal D). The rooms at the and of the corridor (x46 & x47) have a hallway window right next to it. So, when staying in either room, only the door needs to be opened and the arrivals/departures on the other runways can be seen.

Odd numbered rooms might have the benefit of seeing traffic into DAL.

The higher the floor, the better.

LFBO/TLS - Toulouse - Courtyard Marriott - February 2026

Rooms 519 517 501 505 507 508 511 515 of the the Courtyard Marriott at Toulouse all have view towards the cargo end of the airport. The Hotel has six floors and Basically all odd number rooms and the higher the better.  The rooms are all nice rooms with plenty of plug sockets and fast internet. The Hotel has a bar and restaurant and free car parking  A solid alternative to formula one etc.
